What else do I do in retirement?
Study!... at a Residential Adult Summer School of course
Summer Academy (SA) was an umbrella organisation based at University of Kent that coordinated the provision of study holidays at universities in Great Britain and Ireland. Alas it closed after summer 2003. I had been on SA courses for the previous four years. Since then some of the Universities have continued to provide similar courses directly to the public.
This summer I attended two courses: The Green Man at York in August and the The Religious Landscape at Durham in September.
Last summer I attended two courses: Country Houses at UAE and Myths and Legends at Durham both in August.
In 2006 I returned to Durham for a course called Northumbria: Ancient, Modern and Post-Modern. As you will see there are many more pictures this year.
In 2005 I returned to York again on a course called: Stabbing in the Dark. (Illuminating the Dark Ages)
In 2004 I returned to York on their replacement summer school courses. Mine was called: Medieval Art in York.
In summer 2003 I returned to Durham for a week studying From Lindisfarne to Bede: Early Christian Northumbria. This was the first week that I had used a digital camera exclusively.
In summer 2002 I spent a week at Sheffield University studying the Stately Homes of Derbyshire.
In summer 2001 I spent a week at York University studying York: Romans to Normans.
Summer 1999 and 2000 I spent a week at Durham University studying the Castles and Strongholds of Northumbria and Aristocrats and Arrivistes respectively.
For some possible alternatives to SA see Summer Studies.
