Durham is a beautiful city in County Durham in the North-East of England. The Summer Study 2007 course Legends in the Landscape was held there in late August led by the entertaining Fran and Geoff Doel. This my most ambitous coverage yet: 92 pages and 580 photographs. I hope you enjoy it. |
Places visited on the course included:
Auckland Castle, Raby Castle, Finchale Priory, Chester-le-Street, Hylton Castle, Penshaw Hill, Souter Lighthouse, Bede's World, Whitby, Lindisfarne, Bamburgh Castle, Beadnell Bay, Heavenfield, Vindolanda, Willowford Roman Wall, Hexham.
I also visited Lanercost Priory, Birdoswald Roman Fort and Beamish on my way to Durham; the Bowes Museum on my way home; and various parts of the Durham area during the free time.
