Durham 2008: The Religious Landscape

Back To Summer Academy

Durham is a beautiful city in County Durham in the North-East of England.

The Summer Study 2008 course the Religious Landscape was held there in mid September led by Fran and Geoff Doel.

This my most ambitious coverage yet: 105 pages and 1000+ photographs. I hope you enjoy it.

Places visited on the course included:

Finchale Priory, Auckland Castle, Escomb Saxon Church, Whitby Abbey, Whitby Parish Church, Whitby Town, Mount Grace Priory, Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, Warkworth Castle, St. Andrews, Corbridge, Hexham Abbey, Mithraeum, Chesters Roman Fort, St Oswald's Church Heavenfield.

On the Friday I went with the Georgean course to Alnwick Castle and Gardens instead of Bede's World, etc which I have been to many times. We also visited Blagdon Hall. I visited St Nicholas's Church in the centre of Durham area during the free time on Tuesday.

On the journey home on the second Saturday I stopped at Wharton Park, Stanhope Station on the Weardale Railway, and took a stroll around Stanhope, and the Nenthead Mines Hertitage Centre.
